Kranjska Gora, an Alpine Paradise

Kranjska Gora is well-known for its ski slopes and international ski races. But no matter what time of the year you visit, there is always something to see and do in Kranjska Gora.

Kranjska Gora

If you take a well-organized and well-rated daily trip from Ljubljana, then you can be sure to have a time of your life. First, you’ll meet an English-speaking guide and the other travellers. Then you’ll take a pleasant drive to the Gorenjska region. After seeing the majestic Alps and admirable ski slopes, you’ll have a stop near Lake Jasna and Lake Zelenci. Lake Jasna consists of two artificial lakes and is located only 20 minutes by walk outside of the centre of Kranjska Gora which makes for a great afternoon walk.

In the summertime don’t forget to bring your bathing suit with you (although the water is a bit cold, it’s worth taking a swim in this crystal-clear water), in wintertime don’t forget to bring your skis, snowboard and/or skates.

There are two famous roads going out of Kranjska Gora – the first is to Planica, a well-known place where ski jumping competitions take place every year at the end of the season. You can have a taste of athletes’ feelings while jumping, if you go down the slope with a zipline. The second road is the Vršič Pass, the highest road crossing in the Eastern Julian Alps.

You know when in Rome … So, when in Kranjska Gora you must try traditional Slovenian cuisine. We recommend you have a typical Alpine lunch (endulge in the typical flavours of the region).

And be sure to visit the special Christmas fair in December. The Christmas spirit in the Alpine region is somehow the most romantic and people of Kranjska Gora sure know how to make it even more special.
