Ljubljana is the capital city of Slovenia. Ljubljana is a petite and beautiful city located on River Ljubljanica flowing between the Castle hill and the city center. The banks of River Ljubljanica are lined with chic bars and exquisite restaurants that are highly popular with locals and visitors alike. The city boasts one of the most relaxing atmospheres in Europe and offers an endless procession of cultural events. Ljubljana is small place, and a trip round the city feels like a day trip.

Visit Ljubljana Castle

Ljubljana Castle has more to it than meets the eye. Castle hill was favored by the early settlers due to its strategic positioning. The hill is also dotted with many archeological findings. A trip to the castle will let you view the dragon, the old Gothic chapel and medieval jails. You will find a 2000-year old Roman well and beautiful renovated halls. Once you climb the tower, you will be able to catch a panoramic view of the Alps and a bird’s-eye view of the city.

Tivoli Park

Tivoli Park is one of the finest urban parks. It was originally designed in 1813 by linking two smaller parks. This is a huge park with numerous green lawns, a large children’s playground, a sporting and concert Hall, two castles, the National Museum of Contemporary History, an artificial pond and much more. Ljubljana’s locals love visiting the park in the summer and spend hours soaking up the sun, jogging, crossing tight ropes tied between trees and many other summer activities.

Botanical Gardens

The Botanical Gardens are located a short 15-minutes’ walk to the southeast from the city center. Established in 1810, this is a nice, sweet little place to spend some quality time away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There are more than 4,500 plant species that populate the garden, and about a third of them are unique to Slovenia. Visiting the gardens is free.

There are many other places to visit in Ljubljana such as Roznik Hill behind Tivoli Park, Smarna Gora, and the Free Museum. The best time to visit is during summer when you are guaranteed to find many exciting outdoor events and numerous other things to do in Ljubljana.
